Solidum Capital Advisors LLC (Solidum) invests both its own capital as well as working in partnership with a select group of family offices, high net worth individuals and non-traditional sources of capital. Solidum also acts as an advisor to early stage and middle market companies, primarily in the cannabis space. In addition, Solidum has a joint venture with Stoic Advisory (Toronto based boutique advisory firm) in order to provide high level strategic and M&A advisory services to a select group of emerging US cannabis companies.
Brian Schinderle
Managing Partner
Brian Schinderle is the Founder and Managing Partner of Solidum Capital Advisors LLC (Solidum), which was formed in early 2017. From mid-2018 thru September 2020, Brian served as Executive Vice President - Finance of Grassroots Cannabis (Grassroots). While at Grassroots, Brian focused on finance, strategy, capital markets, investor relations and mergers & acquisitions. Grassroots had roughly 80 employees and licenses in 3 states when Brian began advising the company in 2017; as of July 2020, Grassroots operated a vertically integrated cannabis business with current operations in 11 states and >1,100 employees. During his tenure at Grassroots, Brian was responsible for raising in excess of $200mm of capital comprised of direct equity, convertible notes, and various sale/leaseback financings. In addition, Brian led various M&A transactions ranging from the acquisition of the largest vertically integrated cannabis company in a new state to various tuck-ins associated with existing states. On July 17, 2019, Grassroots announced the signing of a definitive merger agreement with Curaleaf Holdings (ticker: CURLF) in a cash + stock transaction valued at roughly $850mm; the transaction closed on July 23, 2020. Brian was directly involved in all aspects of negotiating and closing the merger, which stands as the largest M&A transaction in the history of US cannabis.
At the conclusion of the merger, the combined company became the largest cannabis company in the world, with a vertically integrated business covering 21 states in the US.
Prior to forming Solidum in 2017, Brian spent over 20 years in investment management, primarily investing in fixed income and equity assets via hedge funds, private equity and discretely managed funds. Brian served as a portfolio manager at Balyasny Asset Management for roughly 9 years, and previously served as the co-founder and Managing Partner of Wolf Point Capital Management (WPCM). WPCM was both a long/short credit and equity fund as well as a special situation credit fund. He also managed a series of distressed investing funds at PPM America and started his career at Continental Illinois National Bank. Early in his career, he held various roles in risk management, merchant banking, real estate, and capital markets.
Brian has been an active private and public investor across the cannabis space and also serves on the advisory board of Altitude Investments, a cannabis investment fund based in NY. Brian also serves on the advisory board of AIM PLC, an investment company based in London focused on EU cannabis investments. Brian currently serves on various boards and advisory boards, including Bazelet Americas, IM Cannabis (Ticker: IMCC), and GL Investor, Inc. (DBA Greenlight).
Brian graduated from the University of Illinois, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and also earned a Master of Science degree in Finance.
